PS5 Pro Leaks & Rumors: 10 Things To Know

The leaked PS5 Pro specs from March 2024 are likely real, according to industry sources. Sony is probably aiming for a holiday 2024 release for this upgraded console.

The PS5 Pro will offer rendering performance about 45% faster than the base PS5, with 2-3x faster ray-tracing (up to 4x in some cases) and an impressive 33.5 teraflops of computing power.

I'm thrilled about the AI accelerator supporting machine learning and the custom upscaling/anti-aliasing solution called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). The PS5 Pro will also support resolutions up to 8K.

The PS5 Pro's GPU will have 3.25 times the processing power of the base PS5, while the CPU clock speed may see a 10% increase. The console will likely retain the 16GB of memory from the PS5 but with a 28% increase in bandwidth.

Dev kits have been available to first-party studios since September 2023 and third-party developers since January 2024. Test kits identical to the final product are expected to be available from Spring 2024.

Rumors suggest that the PS5 Pro will be priced in the $600-$650 range, which may concern some gamers, considering the PS5's current cost.

Sony is encouraging developers to use graphics features like ray tracing more with the PS5 Pro. Games with significant enhancements can use a "Trinity Enhanced" (PS5 Pro Enhanced) label.

The PS5 Pro's CPU will have a new mode that clocks it 10% higher at 3.85GHz. Developers can choose between a "standard mode" at 3.5GHz or the "high CPU frequency mode" at 3.85GHz.

Sony wants developers to target a new graphics mode for PS5 Pro Enhanced games, combining 4K resolution, 60fps, and ray-tracing effects. However, games can still qualify for the PS5 Pro label with other improvements.

Some unpatched games may still benefit from the PS5 Pro's ultra-boost mode, which can improve frame rates and stability in certain titles. I can't wait to see how this feature works in practice.
