When traversing the world of Pokemon, you will find different types of creatures and critters that each have unique abilities. These abilities are tied to varying types of elemental natures that exist in the world.
As a new trainer, it is complicated to understand the types of Pokemon, their strengths, and weaknesses.
It is only through experimentation or following guides like mine that you can fully grasp an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.
One type of Pokemon that exists in the Universe is the Dragon Type Pokemon. Despite being mighty and designed, taking inspiration from Chinese and European mythology, these types of Pokemon are not infallible and have their strengths and weaknesses.
So, in this article, I will give you a rundown on Dragon Type Weakness and everything you need to know about this type of Pokemon. So without further ado, let us get right into the topic.
What is a Dragon-Type Pokemon?
Dragon Type Pokemon are some of the rarest Pokemon in the Pokemon universe. With this rarity comes strength, making these Pokemons some of the most sought-after Pokemons in the world.
Over the years, Pokemon has only added 88 Dragon-Type Pokemons in the Universe, which all come from the Dragonite lineage. Out of these, 13 are Single Type Pokemon, while 75 are dual-type Pokemon.
Of these, Nine dragon Type Pokemon are considered Legendary Pokemon, making them very elusive and a dream of every trainer.
Dragon Types of Pokemon also stay longer in their weaker forms due to them requiring a lot of EXP to evolve. Therefore, if you have a dragon-type Pokemon, keep gaining experience with this type, as it can evolve and become a force to be reckoned with.

Best Dragon Type Pokemon Weakness
Dragon Types Pokemon, despite being a force to be reckoned with, especially in their evolutionary form, are not infallible. Like every other Pokemon, they also have a few particular types of weaknesses.
Dragon Types are weak towards attacks originating from Fairy, Ice, and Dragon Types. You should also keep in mind that your dragon-type Pokemon may have additional weaknesses if they are dual-type Pokemon.
- Fairy Types
- Ice Types
- Dragon Types
Some Dragon Types crossed with other types might get more damaged by other types of attacks; therefore, do your complete research before throwing your dragon type into battle.
Other than that, Dragon Type Pokemon are weak against other dragon-type Pokemon. Therefore, I highly recommend that you use a Fairy Type or Steel type due to their high immunity towards dragon type and not risk your own dragon type.
Dragon Types are also very incapable on misty terrains as their damage is reduced by half, especially when their target is on the ground. Therefore refrain from using your dragon type on such terrains.
Dragon Type Strengths and Resistances
Dragon Type Pokemon is a rare and sought-after breed of Pokemon. They have very high stats and can deal a ton of damage to other Pokemon.
Compared to other Pokemon, they have the highest HP and are very powerful in their base form. Their attacks are very strong; therefore, no other Pokemon type except Steel and Fairy Type can resist them.
All Fire, Water, Electric, and Grass Type Pokemon are weak towards dragon-type Pokemon; therefore, throwing a Dragon-Type against any of them depending on Stats is going to be a surefire win for you.
Dragon type Pokémon strong against:
- Fire Types
- Water Types
- Electric Types
- Grass Types
- Dragon Types
Despite being considered a weakness, We can also consider it a strength that Dragon Type Pokemon are highly effective against other dragon-type Pokemon.
So much so that two dragon types with the same stats can fight each other and end up the match as a draw. But I would still recommend that you use a steel or fairy type against a dragon type.
Best Counters For Dragon-Type Pokemon
If you are up against dragon-type Pokemon, there are certain things that can be used against them very effectively to counter them.
First off, If you have a Fairy Type Pokemon in your arsenal, throw it into the battlefield and watch as it gets the dragon type on its knees.
Fairy Types have resisted the dragon-type attacks very well; hence your first choice should always be fairy Pokemon. You can also use a Steel type as they have very high resistance to dragon-type attacks.
Apart from that, if you do not have a fairy-type Pokemon in your arsenal, the next best thing would be to use an Ice type which is known to do massive damage towards them.
However, if you do not have any of them, you can put your own Dragon type as a last resort, as they can deal a lot of damage to their own type.
With this, I end this article with Dragon Type Weakness. Even though dragon types are very powerful against the mundane elemental types, they are weak against certain Pokemon, including Fairy, Ice, and Dragon Type.
